Alexander Michael’s

Overall: 9.2

Alexander Michael’s has been a staple in Charlotte for over 46 years. It opened back in 1983, in a very quiet part of the Fourth Ward. This place gives a very cute local vibe, almost a nostalgic feeling even through this was my first time here. It feels like a tavern that would be in Stars Hollow in Gilmore Girls.

Sweet Neighborhood Feel

The tavern is decorated with antiques and dark wood. The walls are filled with old framed photos, vintage beer signs, and stained glass. The lightning is dim, and depending on where you are sitting it may even be a bit too dim. I was sat in a solo booth in the back (loved that this was an option), but it was a a little too dark.

The Food Measures Up

First of all, I loved everything I ate. Second of all, its one of the few reasonable priced sit-down places I have been in a minute. I ordered the Reuben ($13) with a side of the famous spicy crab soup (up charge of $2). The soup for sure lives up to the hype! It has a kick without being too spicy and smells divine. I also give them brownie points for the crispy pickles on top of the Reuben and including plenty of meat and sauerkraut. Everything came out quick and was hot + it was filling enough to take half my sandwich home!

Where Everybody Knows Your Name

The staff is polite and attentive, without being overbearing and checking on me every 3o seconds. I arrive about 20 minutes after they opened for lunch (around 11:20am) and by 11:30am most of the tavern was full! Definitely, a restaurant that has a ton of regulars and where the staff remembers your name if you come in enough.
